Starting from very fine field recordings, Matt Shoemaker alternates
- in the different passages of these four long tracks - grafts and
drones. The perception is immediate and instinctively induced, if
we consider the very hybrid mix of sounds and frequencies. Abstract
compositions often built by manipulating fairly common auditive experiences:
birds flying, church bells ringing, the howl of the wind, all these
situations are then put together to create new series and a particular
rhythm. In this case, his treatment of different shapes and structures,
even if heterogeneous, doesn't induce a feeling of disorientation.
On the contrary, it hints deeply at the author's sensitivity, at his
conception of music, at the presence of more strategies that always
put the listeners' experience before his love for techniques. |
