D.A.
Odeon
Olde English Spelling Bee LP
Available through the Helen Scarsdale Agency: $18.00
“Dallas Acid” and “Dials Aegon” have been two of the meanings for the acronym D.A. This synth & guitar duo poses as a mysterious side-project emerging out of the hirsute blues-rock quartet VietNam. Aesthetically and geographically speaking, VietNam and Dallas Acid are miles apart and are much better for it. D.A.’s darkly cosmic constructs neighbor the lazerbeam meditations from Emeralds and Infinity Window, with a distinctly dystopian vantage point as witnessed from their reported rooftop performances that overlook the Los Angeles police departments training grounds for riot control. Minor key melodies flutter over rotating sequences of electronics and slow-burning crescendos, all of which blossom with spectral washes of guitar and oceanic white noise. Dare it be said that D.A. might have outdone Emeralds’ nearly impeccable album of kosmische poetics on What Happened? Yeah, they probably did. -- The Wire
